Northcott Young Company create ground-breaking TV studio spoof

Born from the creative minds of our Northcott Young Company and Young Creatives, Studio on the 3rd Floor pulled back the curtain on the madness behind live television.

Step into a world of TV chaos and technological wizardry

Back to the Studio

Our young performers, many of whom had never worked on a large-scale production before, worked together with professionals from the Northcott team to devise hilarious sketches that delved into the mishaps, ego clashes and delightful surprises behind the camera.

Our goal has always been to give young people in our Young Company and Young Creatives groups to be an active part of a professional production. Facilitating the collaboration between theatre professionals and our young people went far beyond what I expected and was such an exciting aspect of the piece that I am so proud to have been part of creating.” – Jacob Blackburn, director of Studio on the 3rd Floor and Creative Engagement Producer at Exeter Northcott

Studio on the 3rd Floor is also the most technologically innovate show the Northcott has staged at the Barnfield since it took over management of the historic theatre in January 2022.

The production was a madcap mashup of live TV and behind-the-scenes studio mayhem. The Clifford Room was transformed into a live TV set featuring news and cooking segments from a zany Good Morning Britain-style show. Simultaneously, these TV segments were live-streamed and projected into the Barnfield auditorium, plunging audiences into the chaos of a TV studio control room.

This technical marvel was only made possible by the incredible support of the Northcott technical team, who went above and beyond to help make this show a reality.

NYC has built my confidence massively. It has helped me with drama in school. The people at NYC are my sort of people. They are kind, caring and respectful. They have the same interests as me.” – NYC participant, 2022-23
