Exhibition and film by Liberty Smith
EXETER NORTHCOTT, 1 – 11 MAY, 10AM – 3PM, TOURING EXETER THROUGHOUT MAY & JUN
An exhibition showcasing a commissioned short film by Liberty Smith, alongside a series of portraits of participants, featured in the film and a listening booth of oral histories collected by the Northcott, will be unveiled on Sun 1 May, before touring to city centre locations.
Exhibition: Exploring the Archive
BILL DOUGLAS CINEMA MUSEUM 27 APR – 27 MAY, OPEN DAILY 10AM – 5PM
An exhibition of original material from the Archive, curated by the Northcott Collection’s Archivist Caroline Walter and the heritage project’s Curator Kathryn Johnson, will be on display at the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum, just a short walk from the theatre.
Hannah Kumari: Workshops & Performance
PERFORMANCES: EXETER NORTHCOTT, SUN 1 MAY
In April we will host an exciting series of new workshops to express yourself, move your body and connect with history. Local performer, writer and theatre maker Hannah Kumari will share materials from the Northcott Theatre Archives, discussing the representation of Black and Global Majority communities and artists in Exeter. NYC Presents: The Back End of the Cow and Other Stories

The Northcott Young Company are adding their voices to the archive of the future. From volunteer stewards and actors, to technical crew and former members of theYoung Company, our young people have been gathering stories and memories to use as inspiration for their own brand-new show – a piece of promenade theatre that will guide audiences through the lesser-known parts of the Northcott. Who knows which stories will come to life?
Tea and a Talk with Richard Digby-Day
EXETER NORTHCOTT, TUE 14 JUN, 6PM
A combined event celebrating The Stories We Tell and Cygnet Theatre’s 40th Anniversary and Dream Festival 2022, hosted by our current Northcott Artistic Director Daniel Buckroyd. Discussing his time as the Northcott’s Artistic Director between 1978 and 1980, Richard Digby-Day will share his memories and explore change and continuity in Exeter’s theatre sector.
