The Mikado

  • Show Information

Exeter University’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society celebrates its fiftieth anniversary in style, with a performance of the duo’s iconic piece: The Mikado! One of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular and enduring works, The Mikado follows the antics of Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado, and the hilarity that ensues in the Japanese town of Titipu when, disguised as a wandering minstrel, he arrives to declare his love for Yum-Yum. She was the beautiful Ward of Ko-Ko, a cheap tailor now raised to the exulted rank of the Town’s Lord High Executioner, under a set of equally amusing circumstances.

Taking a satirical look at the British class system, The Mikado is a humorous, farcical show, underpinned with beautiful melodies that is not to be missed.
