Physical Theatre Masterclass: Exeter Northcott Futures

  • Show Information

Fresh from their smash hit run at the Exeter Northcott Theatre in Robin Hood, we are excited to welcome Le Navet Bete to run a masterclass in Physical Theatre.

In this masterclass we explore different ways of using the human body in performance and storytelling. With humour, tenderness and story at the centre of the conversation, how can we create performances that are compelling and insightful using the human form as the main character?

About the artist

Le Navet Bete is made up of three performers, Matt Freeman, Al Dunn and Nick Bunt, alongside their amazing production and marketing team. Since meeting at Plymouth University in 2003, they have created 12 indoor shows, and 3 outdoor shows to great critical acclaim. Their style is heavily influenced by clowning styles such as bouffon, but they have developed a unique storytelling aspect to their craft that takes the traditional clowning and slapstick forms to new depths. Their mission is to create and tour hilarious, physical and totally accessible comedy theatre using creative and engaging storytelling for absolutely everyone (ages 4 – 104!) throughout the UK and internationally.

This workshop is aimed at early career artists, age 18+ only.

Exeter Northcott Theatre and Le Navet Bete's Dick Whittington artwork. Background: a foggy panorama photo of the city of London, with iconic buildings such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, and St Paul's Cathedral. The cityscape is washed over with a burgundy haze. Foreground: A black and white cat (black body, white neck collar, white paws) looks towards the cityscape and we see them in near silhouette. They are stood on a yellow-brick path, with green grassy hills either side of them. On the hills, grey rats with large red eyes. On the left hand side of the cat, a rat holds a stereotypical hobo sack on a stick. At the top of the artwork, gold text reads: 'Exeter Northcott Theatre and Le Navet Bete present Dick Whittington.' Another group of rats with large red eyes are playing around the letters in 'Dick Whittington'. A cat paw icon replaces the dot on top of the letter 'I' in 'Dick', and a block of cheese replaces the dot on top of the second letter 'I' in 'Whittington.
