Three New Northcott Productions Announced

We’re excited to announce that three new productions will be made and presented in Devon in 2021.

The first to open in March is The Honey Man, an absorbing tale about an unlikely relationship between an ageing West Indian recluse and a fiery sixteen year old heir to a country manor house. Written by Tyrone Huggins, it will be directed by Devon-based Director Alix Harris.

Antigone, Brecht’s version of Sophocles’ gripping political thriller, hits the stage in May. A collaboration between the Northcott’s professional team and an ensemble of Exeter University students, it pits a teenage girl against the power of the state, in a topical story of ‘strong man’ leaders and citizen power.

An adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s Friend or Foe will be directed by the Northcott’s Artistic Director, Daniel Buckroyd, in June. Following two boys as they’re evacuated from London to Devon during the second world war, this adventurous tale for all the family will feature a mixed professional/community cast drawn from across the County, with information about how to get involved to be published soon.

All three shows are planned with social-distancing measures in place so that audiences can book with confidence. Earlier this year, we hosted a sold-out socially-distanced gig and was praised for the COVID-safe measures we put in place. This Christmas, we will present a hilarious take on Treasure Island by local company Le Navet Bete.

Daniel Buckroyd said:

“It feels more important than ever that we platform the work of home-grown talent and partner with communities and locally-based creatives to present shows made right here in Devon. These Exeter Northcott productions will sit alongside a programme of work emerging from projects with local artists, communities and young people so the year ahead will see a broad range of our region’s creative voices coming through.”

Audiences can also look forward to a wide range of music, talks, comedy and entertainment in the new year: Families can book now for Horrible Histories’ Barmy Britain and The Gruffalo’s Child; Strictly Come Dancing fans can get close to the show’s stars Kevin and Joanne Clifton and Giovanni Pernice; animal-lovers can find out more about Gordon Buchanan’s adventures; and those in need of a good chortle can take their pick from a long line up of comedians including Geoff Norcott, Alistair McGowan, Rachel Parris, Jimmy Carr, Sarah Millican and Katherine Ryan, plus many more.
