A dark green, textured background. In the centre, a digitally collaged image of a woman in 1930s dress, with a short, blunt bob haircut, holding a monocle on a long pearl necklace up to her eye. Blended into her silhouette are photos of 1930s looking jazz musicians, dancers and a female couple touching their foreheads together in an intimate expression.

Three women dressed in vintage 1930s shirts and trousers create dynamic poses as they dance under bold yellow and red hued lights. Behind them, the stage is dark apart from a ring of theatre bulbs arching in the background.
Women dressed in vintage 1930s clothing dance as couples, holding each other closely, under soft blue and pink hued lighting.
A woman dressed scantily in a silky chemise turns her back to the camera, silhouetted against a red light. The silhouettes of other women can be seen in the background. The image exudes sensuality.
A woman in a black dress, slit at the leg, and wearing a string of pearls, swings another female dancer by holding onto her arm and leg. The two dance under dramatic blue and purple hued lights.
Five female dancers strike the same dynamic pose, their legs spaced far apart, one arm brought up close to their face, the other stretched out to the side. They are dressed in a mix of male and female 1930s style clothing and lit dramatically from above.

The Monocle

  • Show Information

Welcome to The Monocle, where nothing is impossible!

This highly virtuosic contemporary dance performance, featuring the voluptuous jazz chanteuse Imogen Banks, presents the untold story of Le Monocle, a secretly notorious lesbian cabaret in 1930s Paris. Inside The Monocle the air is thick, warm and wavy with secrets and sensuality. Women laugh loudly, drink the night away and abandon themselves into smooth and passionate dances.

Just for one night, be our guest at The Monocle and experience the joy of what it feels like to be in a truly safe space.

During the interval, join us in the café, where Imogen will treat the audience to an extra special singing performance.
