Directing Masterclass: Exeter Northcott Futures

Working with actors, designers, creators and collaborators. As a director your primary job is to communicate vision and lead the charge in bringing that vision to life. In this practical masterclass, you will explore different styles of direction, practical rehearsal room exercises and also have space to explore your own unique directing journey.

This practical workshop is led by Katie Villa and will have a focus on directing devised work and new writing. Please wear comfortable clothes that you can move in.

Katie is a performer, director, theatre maker and dramaturg living and working in Exeter. After coming to the city to do her drama degree at the University of Exeter, she found that she couldn’t bear to leave. She has toured widely with her own theatre company, Theatre Rush, and with her solo show, WILD, which is part of The Birth Project. Katie has co written and directed 6 shows with Quirk Theatre, and has also directed with Scratchworks Theatre Company & at The Bike Shed Theatre. Recently, Katie collaborated with Rosie Race on Us Against The World at Theatre Royal, Plymouth, leading the R&D process & directing the work in progress sharing.


This workshop is aimed at early career artists, age 18+ only.
