At Exeter Northcott Theatre, we recognise that our organisation has an environmental impact and take our responsibility to reduce that impact seriously.
We are committed to:
- Embedding sustainability across our organisation
- Sharing our progress with our audiences
- Making it possible for our audiences to make sustainable choices when they attend our events
- Sharing our experiences and learning from others within the wider sector
- Regularly reviewing our targets and progress
We also aspire to address the climate crisis through our artistic programme by presenting work which engages with environmental issues, by platforming artists and companies who are finding sustainable ways of working, and by producing our own work with as little environmental impact as possible.

Our actions so far include:
- Developing and publishing an environmental policy in Mar 2025
- Establishing an organisation-wide Green Team in Oct 2024
- Replacing paper towels with energy-efficient hand dryers in backstage and audience toilets in 2024
- Switching the Barnfield Theatre’s energy supplier to 100% renewable energy in 2024
- Hiring set and costumes for Dick Whittington (2023/2024) and Cinderella (2024/2025)
- Continually sourcing second-hand office furniture and opting to repair rather than replace
- Choosing a web host powered by 100% renewable energy, and continually minimising our digital footprint
- Introducing a Cycle to Work scheme
- Switching to reusable cups in our Theatre Café and instituting a discount for bringing your own reusable cup
While we have made good progress towards our goals, we still have a long way to go.
We welcome our audience’s involvement on our environmental policy and impact. If you have any feedback, questions, or suggestions, please send us an email to our Green Team.
