Open call-out: Musicals in development

Newsicals – An informal afternoon of snacks, chat and ideas for new musicals.

Are you developing or have you developed an original new musical or play with music recently? Exeter Northcott Theatre, working with associates Documental Productions, is looking to foster the South West’s increasingly vibrant new musical theatre scene.

Documental Productions (who recently produced Mary and the Matrons) would like to bring writers, composers, performers and actor-musicians together around this much-loved artform and celebrate some of the brilliant work in development.

They will be hosting a lunchtime event where local artists perform selected songs from their new musical theatre shows/plays with music. It is a chance to meet and celebrate the amazing book, lyrics and scores coming out of the region in what is a boom time for the new British musical. They hope that, by coming together, we can not only share the exciting stuff they’ve been working on with musical theatre fans and lunchtime visitors to the Barnfield, but also connect and start to support each other with fundraising and the development milestones every MT professional navigates on the way to creating a hit production.

*Please note this opportunity is currently unfunded but Documental is in the process of applying for funding to be able to offer a payment to each participating artist to support with expenses*

If you are interested in taking part and have some exciting music to share – whatever stage it is at – please do reach out to this supportive opportunity. Email [email protected] with any questions, attach a demo of the song(s) you’d like to perform and a brief description of the show they are part of.

Please respond by Sunday 6 October.

We hope that this event will be just the beginning of building a supportive risk-taking regional MT network… and the Far South West will soon be associated with the brightest and best in new musicals.
