The brand new, free programme will help participants build confidence and be inspired to reach their full potential by learning exciting and fun new skills, as well as broadening their access to positive role models and careers insight.
Demonstrating a shared commitment to supporting young people in the region, Community Exe is a partnership between the University of Exeter, the Angus Lawson Memorial Trust, the Exeter Community Chiefs, Exeter City Community Trust and Somerset Cricket Foundation, Sound Communities, Yellow Mouse Animation Studios, the Devon Music Education Hub and Exeter Northcott Theatre.
Applications are open now for current Year 9s from Devon or Somerset who meet one of a number of individual criteria which include: being eligible for free school meals, being a young carer, being care experienced, having a declared disability, and living in a low-income household or area with socioeconomic challenges.
Community Exe is designed to help teenage boys use their interests to push themselves, create a sense of personal achievement, gain new life experiences, and meet new people. This programme gives them chance to develop specialist skills, learn about possible careers through working with experts in their field and shine a new light on the role that education can play in becoming your future self in a welcoming and inspirational environment.

Applicants will choose one of four Award Pathways: Sport, Young Leaders, Music & Communication or AI & Technology. Students who choose the Young Leaders pathway will benefit from an exclusive workshop exploring theatre techniques for communication, while those following the Music & Communications Pathway will get a behind the scenes glimpse into the world of theatre production.
We are delighted to be a part of the Community Exe programme. Raising aspiration and inspiring teenagers has rarely been so important, and Exeter Northcott’s commitment to young people and social cohesion is a perfect fit for this excellent programme from the University of Exeter.
