Exeter Northcott partners with local charities to gift 200 tickets

A young girl wearing a blue and white-coloured hoodie leans forward onto a red theatre seat. She is resting he head on her crossed arms, and is looking up and smiling at what is happening off-camera on stage. She is surrounded by other young people, also engaged with what is happening off-camera on stage.

We’ve launched our fifth annual Pay It Forward campaign by gifting an initial 200 tickets for our upcoming pantomime, Cinderella.

We’re partnering with South West-based charities to give the tickets to local people who might not otherwise be able to enjoy theatre at Christmas.

Three partner organisations have been confirmed so far: Children’s Hospice South West, LiveWest, and bereavement support charity Balloons.

Claire Hammond, Volunteer Coordinator and Activity Days Manager at Balloons attended a performance of last year’s pantomime, Dick Whittington, with a number of the families who the charity supports. She said:

“It was so good to see the children and their families laughing and really enjoying themselves. You cannot imagine how special this is for them or how wonderful it was for me to see them having so much fun. At Balloons we normally work with the children in the depths of their grief, so to see them so happy was a joy to behold.”

Around them are a variety of objects, including thread, buttons, ribbon, a measuring tape, thimble and a Christmas bauble.

Last year, the campaign received remarkable public support, with 2625 people donating and over 680 tickets gifted.

This year, 771 people have generously donated as much as £500 per person.

2024 is also the first year we plan to gift tickets for our Christmas show at the Barnfield Theatre – The Elves and the Shoemaker – as well for our beloved pantomime, extending the experience to younger children for the first time.
