Maria Tarokh

Maria is a British-Iranian freelance dancer, choreographer, movement director, and director. Trained in ballet, contemporary and classical Persian dance, she has performed and taught across the UK and Europe for the past 14 years. She trained at Alonzo King Lines Ballet and ODC Dance Commons. She now works across dance and theatre, as co-director of NDP Circus and a lead Facilitator on Theatre Royal Plymouth’s Our Space programme. Recent movement director credits include the Olivier Award-nominated, RSC production of ENGLISH — a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Sanaz Toosi (Tony nominee).

A 2nd generation immigrant to the UK, she has worked extensively with refugees and asylum seekers and teaches movement and dance workshops to communities across the UK. She founded Company SHEherazade to tell stories of the diaspora through dance performances, installations and experiences and to provide access to dance and movement for refugees and asylum seekers.

Company Scheherazade is an Exeter Northcott Elevate Associate Company.
