About Company Scheherazade
Company Scheherazade creates dance productions, installations and experiences examining identity and displacement, working with artists of the global majority.
They use contemporary dance and classical Persian dance to tell stories of the diaspora that aren’t celebrated in contemporary culture.
The company is composed of dance artists, musicians and sound designers. Company Scheherazade specialises in creating work which fosters collaboration between dance, music and sound.

I am very excited to be working with the Northcott! It’s so special to have found a home in the South West that can support Company Scheherazade’s growth and development. Company Scherazade’s Work
Crown
CROWN//تاج combines classical Persian dance, contemporary dance, and Sufi movement to tell a story of displacement, identity, and body sovereignty to an original soundtrack of live classical music and electronica.
Maria Tarokh created and directs this production for its inaugural tour in 2023. The cast features brilliant contemporary and classical dancers and virtuoso classical Persian musicians. Altogether it’s a moving, exhilarating, and energetic experience.
Co-produced by Dartington Arts and commissioned by Counterpoints Arts. Supported with funding from Arts Council England.
