Elevate Festival – Scratch Night workshop
Thinking about presenting or touring a show for the first time? Maybe you have done it before but didn’t feel equipped to get what you needed?
Hosted by Cait Laws (Exeter Northcott Programme Producer) and Katy Danbury (Exeter Phoenix Performance Programmer), this informal, discussion-led session aims to help early career artists understand the relationship between producers/companies and venues, particularly the questions that are worth asking at the point a deal is agreed.
Whether you are an early-career producer, a self-producing artist or a performance maker who would like to better understand the overall process of getting your show venue-ready, come along and learn from Exeter’s two leading performance venues.
The session will cover important topics such as understanding deal memos and clarifying details, how to interpret venue technical specifications and identify any potential challenges early, managing communication with venues from booking the show through to the performance day, and common pitfalls that can create unexpected costs or operational issues.
Feel free to come armed with questions. We hope you will leave with the tools, knowledge and confidence to have productive conversations with venue programmers and technical teams.
We have introduced these pre-scratch workshops following direct feedback from artists at recent Scratch gatherings.
