ART is a very clever comedy about friendship and, of course, a very expensive painting.
Serge has bought a modern painting for a huge sum of money. Marc hates it and cannot believe that a friend of his could possibly want such a work. Yvan attempts, unsuccessfully, to placate both sides. If your friendship is based on tacit mutual agreement, what happens when one person does something completely different and unexpected?
Winner of the Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy of the Year, ART received its British premiere at Wyndham’s Theatre, London in 1994, starring Albert Finney, Tom Courtenay and Ken stott.
ART has not been released for amateur production very often and Up Close feel very privileged to be given permission to do this funny, challenging and touching play.
Up Close is a community touring company based in North Devon. They take on challenging and different theatre and have produced over 18 productions.
