“The king shall live without an heir if that which is lost be not found”

It’s New Year’s Day 2009 – Leontes, King of Sicilia, is celebrating with his family and their guest of honour, Polixenes, King of Bohemia. The people of Sicilia have great hope for the young prince, Mamillius, and Queen Hermione’s second child is on the way. All in Sicilia seems well… Having found comfort following his wife’s untimely death and with his royal visit coming to an end, Polixenes prepares to return home to his son, Florizel – but what starts as a simple request to extend his stay, unexpectedly leads to disastrous consequences that threaten to tear the whole kingdom apart. Sixteen years will pass before a final miraculous outcome and that which was lost, may be found…

Due to popular demand, Sun & Moon Theatre are returning with their vibrant and moving production of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale. Originally performed in the open air, the show has been re-imagined for the indoor stage in time for the festive season. Cosy up with a winter warmer and immerse yourself in this spectacular theatrical dramedy, set against the backdrop of Christmas and New Year in a chaotic world where fairy tale meets reality. Considered one of Shakespeare’s greatest plays, The Winter’s Tale is a gripping and joyful celebration of ensemble action, comedy, drama, love, courage, trials, live music, puppetry, and magic. From the wintry cool courts of Sicilia to the summer sun festivities of Bohemia and featuring one of theatre’s most iconic moments (“exit pursued by a bear”), this captivating production is suitable for all ages.

Whether you’re returning after experiencing the outdoor version or discovering it for the first time, this reimagined performance offers a fresh and exciting take on a timeless classic and is a perfect way to enjoy a winter’s night – don’t miss the magic this season!
