Devon Opera presents

La Bohème

  • Show Information

Puccini’s best loved opera La Bohème. Set in Paris, in the snow.

In a world of artistic endeavour and poverty, with their whole futures ahead of them, four young men and two young women explore early adult life and love. The inseparable group of friends share each other’s ups and downs. No trial lasts long, and all mistakes are easily forgotten.

But something in the future will test their joie de vivre. While they all picture big things a few years off, one of them already lives in the darkening shadow of death.

Join the young professional opera singers of Devon Opera for Puccini’s La Bohème. With a new setting of the score for chamber orchestra from the internationally renowned composer Pavel Timofeyevsky and the acclaimed opera director Anna Gregory’s emotionally intense staging, this new staging of the world’s favourite opera will move the hardest of hearts.

Sung in Italian with English surtitles.

Devon Opera exists to bring outstanding professional opera to the people of Devon. We are a charity, run by committed trustees who give their time and experience voluntarily. Whether Puccini, Mozart or Verdi, our productions are sung in the original language and accompanied by internationally acclaimed musicians. We also have a developing outreach programme to foster talented singers and open the world of opera to young people.

Building upon the huge success of our production of Tosca last year, we continue with Puccini and the beautiful and heart-rending La Bohème. We are thrilled that our new Company Director, the celebrated director and soprano, Anna Gregory will be directing our new production.
