Elevate Festival: The Shakespeare Gym

  • Show Information

An opportunity for local performers to practise their classical sight-reading skills in a friendly and supportive environment. Using blind casting, we will explore various parts of the Titus Andronicus text together, with the aim of providing space and community to speak Shakespeare’s words aloud. A chance to enjoy the feel of these magical words, to practise in a non-pressurised way, to play with rhythms and imagery together. Helping actors feel more confident when approaching classical texts.

About Wild Thyme

Wild Thyme have previously performed readings of Titus and Measure for Measure at St Nicholas Priory, Exeter. Our vision is to create a focal point for Shakespeare in Exeter, giving audiences an entertaining experience of quality Shakespeare close to home and giving performers a platform to build community and develop their classical and sight-reading skills. Whether you’re a Shakespeare aficionado or simply curious, join us and discover what Shakespeare means for us in our city today. We are continuing with a series of rehearsed readings of lesser known classical plays, leading to fully staged productions and broader events in future.
