Casting Call Out – Bronia Silver Sword

Sell A Door Theatre Company will be visiting the Exeter Northcott Theatre from 27-31 October with an adaptation of Ian Serraillier’s best selling book The Silver Sword. As part of the tour the company are looking for children across the UK to play the role of Bronia.

Bronia is 7-10 years old over the course of the play. She has spent a lot of time being raised by her siblings, as both of her parents were taken from them during the war, and the Silver Sword tells of their quest to find them again. Bronia is incredibly artistic. She is forced to grow up quickly and draws images of the war that show her depth of understanding of what is going on.

To audition, girls will need to be between the ages of 7 and 12, but be shorter than 5 foot tall, and look comfortably younger than 10. In the audition, they will be asked to perform some sides from the show, and possibly sing a song.

From the Exeter area, we need:
1 girl who will be needed for rehearsals from the 24th October and for shows at the Exeter Northcott Theatre from the 27th to the 31st October.

If you are interested or have any suggestions for the role should be emailed to: anna@selladoor.com

Successful applicants will be invited to audition at Cygnet Theatre on Saturday 11th July.

Mrs Warren’s Profession

Mrs Warren’s Profession, a play that was banned for 30 years, comes to the Exeter Northcott in July.
George Bernard Shaw’s Mrs Warren’s Profession stars Sue Holderness (Only Fools and Horses) and Christopher Timothy (Doctors) and runs from Tues 7 – Sat 11 July.

Vivie Warren, a young Cambridge graduate, is horrified to learn that her education and entire luxurious life-style has been financed by her mother’s career in the world’s oldest profession. Due to its frank portrayal of Mrs Warren’s profession, this rarely performed and ground-breaking play was originally banned in England by the Lord Chamberlain.
Written in 1894, it was not allowed a public performance for the next thirty years and during its first performance in New York, the police stopped the play and arrested the cast. The role of Mrs Warren is considered to be one of the greatest female acting roles and this production explores the choices women of the time were forced to make.

Sue Holderness said:
“I’m very excited to be taking Mrs Warren’s Profession on tour to some gorgeous venues. It’s such a terrific play and Mrs Warren is a wonderful character to play. I seem to be type cast as an old tart.”

The cast also includes Emily Woodward as Vivie, Christopher Bowen as Praed, Ryan Saunders as Frank Gardner and Richard Derrington as Reverend Samuel Gardner.
The production is presented by the Everyman Theatre Company and is directed by Paul Milton, the Everyman Theatre’s Creative Director with design by Dawn Allsopp.
